Well now is your first big moment when we introduce you to your first guitar note chart (or scale). We’ll teach you a simple, easy to play scale and show you how to play leads over the progression you recorded in lesson 2 (guitar chord riffs and progressions). You did record the chord riff from the last lesson… didn’t you? If not, you’re going to need it so go do it now!
Alrighty then! For those of you honor students that made recordings of yourself we’ll move on. Practice playing up and down the pentatonic scale we’ve taught you until you can do it totally randomly over the riff. Figure out what sounds good to your ear (what you think sounds good can very well be different from what I think), and explore the scale while listening for the chord changes in the riff playing on tape (or CD or whatever! Too much technology these days!). This lesson is where the rubber hits the road, and there is plenty more to learn in this area. You can spend a lifetime learning to mix and match chords, riffs, scales, licks and leads. We’ve put a huge compilation of a wide variety of riffs, scales, theory, and licks together in a sensible lesson plan on DVD. Preview all the lessons online free with a sign up.
